The Party Starts at MidnightThe Party Starts at Midnight by Lucy King

My rating: 3 of 5 gargoyles

This was a very different sort of HP book, at least in my opinion. The hero wasn’t a total jerk (rich of course) and the heroine didn’t just blindly take whatever he dished out. Both had very distinct lives and, in an extreme deviation from most HP books, they did NOT spend the majority of this book actually together. A great deal of it consisted of emails back and forth. I rather enjoyed that Abby was very comfortable with the woman she’d become and that she was definitely a successful woman in her own right. She breaks the traditional HP role of a secretary or caretaker, etc, in that she owns her own business (party planning).

Where it fell a little flat for me was simply, strangely enough, one of the deviations – the fact that they spend so much of this book not together (as in not physically – not just they weren’t a couple, they literally were not spending time together). I missed that interaction, though the email exchanges were great.
So – a mixed bag for me. I like it but….meh.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
